Pre-inspection checks: workshops in Singapore

15 workshops in the directory where the business name or customers' public reviews mention inspection work. Get the car checked before VICOM, STA or JIC does.

Cars in Singapore are inspected every two years from age 3 to 10, and every year after 10; cars under 3 years need no periodic inspection (LTA). The inspection covers structure, wheels and tyres, brakes, steering, body, lights and the exhaust's emission and noise. A workshop check beforehand catches the cheap fixes, such as a bulb, a wiper or worn tyres, before they cost a re-inspection.

What it costs

The inspection fee for a car is S$68.67, with S$34.34 for a re-inspection, inclusive of 9% GST, as published in April 2024 (Motorist). Check the current fee with the centre before you go.

Signs you need it

  • LTA's inspection notice has arrived (it comes within 3 months of the due date)
  • A warning light is on
  • A bulb, wiper or horn is not working
  • Tyres are worn or the exhaust is loud or smoky

What to ask the workshop

  • Can you check the items the inspection centre tests?
  • Is the emission test likely to pass?
  • What must be fixed now and what can wait?

Inspection: questions

How often does my car need inspection in Singapore?

Not at all for the first 3 years, every 2 years from 3 to 10 years old, and every year after 10.

Can I go for inspection early?

An inspection done more than 3 months before the due date does not count for road tax renewal. Inside the 3-month window you can go any time.

Where can I inspect my car?

At LTA's authorised inspection centres: VICOM, STA Inspection and JIC Inspection Services, each with several locations.
