Car aircon

Car aircon repair and servicing workshops in Singapore

27 workshops in the directory where the business name or customers' public reviews mention car aircon work. Warm air, weak airflow or a musty smell.

In Singapore the aircon runs every time the engine does, so it wears faster than in a temperate country. Warm air usually points to low refrigerant, a blocked condenser, a compressor fault or a blown fuse; weak airflow is most often a clogged cabin filter (GetGo). A regas on a system that leaks only lasts until the gas leaks out again, so a leak test before a top-up saves money.

What it costs

GetGo's Singapore guide lists S$15 to S$40 for a cabin air filter, S$50 to S$80 for a refrigerant recharge, S$500 to S$1,500 for compressor repair and S$1,200 to S$2,500 for compressor replacement (GetGo).

Signs you need it

  • Air comes out warm or only cool at speed
  • Airflow is weak even on the highest fan setting
  • A musty smell, or water on the passenger-side floor
  • A new noise when the aircon switches on

What to ask the workshop

  • Will you leak-test before you regas?
  • If it is the compressor, is the quote for repair or replacement, and is the part new or reconditioned?
  • Is the cabin filter included?
  • What warranty do you give on the work?

Car aircon: questions

Why is my car aircon not cold?

The usual causes are low refrigerant from a leak, a blocked condenser, a compressor fault or an electrical fault such as a blown fuse. Weak airflow on its own is most often a clogged cabin filter.

Can I regas my car aircon myself?

It is not recommended. Refrigerant is under pressure and can cause frostbite on skin contact, and a top-up does not fix the leak that emptied the system.

How often should the cabin filter be changed?

GetGo suggests every 10,000 to 15,000 km or every 12 months, whichever comes first.
